Here's a basic recipe for a simple vanilla cake:
Ingredients:
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Cut the butter into small cubes and add them to the mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat the mixture until it is light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Slowly pour in the milk and vanilla extract, and continue mixing until the batter is smooth.
- Grease a 9-inch (23cm) cake pan with butter or cooking spray. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
